Stanley Bailey

Stan Bailey passed away on July 3, 2012 in Spokane, WA. He was born on August 14, 1931 to Georgia and Earnest Bailey in Lamont, WA. Stan was predeceased by his parents and his brother, James S. Bailey. Stan attended Lamont grade school and high school with his five brothers and sisters. After graduating from high school, Stan enlisted in the US Navy with his brother Darrel. During his honorable service he was part of the Admiral's staff on the USS Missouri. Stan was extremely proud of this time serving his country and remained a loyal patriot throughout his life. The Admiral's staff, who encouraged Stan to continue his education, arranged his early release from active duty to attend WSU in Pullman, WA. After receiving his bachelor's degree he attended the University of California in Berkeley, where he received his Master's degree in business. Upon graduation he worked as a Federal Bank Examiner in San Francisco, where he raised his family in the Bay area. Later he was recruited by the Home Federal Savings and Loan Bank of San Francisco to serve as comptroller. In 1973 he was promoted to Chairman of the Board and CEO, a position he held until his retirement in 1996. After retirement Stan loved to travel and play golf with his buddies. Together they took many trips to amazing golf courses in Hawaii. He cruised all over the world, with China and Africa being two of his favorite locations. In 2000 he met the love of his life, Pauli, and they were married in 2001. Stan and Pauli loved living in Palm Springs for the winters and in Spokane for the summers. Stan's greatest pleasure was the time he spent with his family and beloved friends. If you knew Stan and his brothers and sisters, you know they always played jokes on each other and loved telling their stories from childhood. Those of us who loved Stan will miss him dearly. He was the most amazing person you could hope to know and spend time with. He was always so funny and would giggle at himself often. He always had a kind word for others and loved bringing happiness to them. Many people who met Stan over the years of his professional life remain eternally grateful for his help and support during financially difficult times in San Francisco, where he was able to help them save their businesses and keep their families together. Stan was a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many. He is survived by and dearly loved his wife Pauli from Spokane, his sons Bill and David(Ron), of CA; his brothers and sisters, Darrel(Della) and their daughter, Vicki(Mike) of Spokane; Michael (Roberta) of Colfax, Dianne Miller (Charles) and their daughter Jill of Spokane; and Darla Emtman (Jim) of Cheney; and all of Pauli's extended family. He is also survived by his former wife Mary, their daughter Debbie their extended family. Stan requested no services be held, but asked that his ashes be scattered in the San Francisco Bay. His family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or a charity of your choice in his memory. Stan, peace be with you.
