Nadine Ann Schmelzer

Schmelzer (Barrett), Nadine Ann passed away peace- fully surrounded by family on July 9th, 2016 in Spokane, Washington after a battle with cancer. She was born on July 21, 1941 in Spokane, WA to Clarence and Ann Moore. She was raised in Deer Park, WA and graduated from Deer Park High School in 1959. After graduation she attended both Eastern Washington State College and Kinman Business College to study accounting. She married Carlos Sebastian in 1962 while he was stationed at Fairchild Airforce Base. They moved to Phoenix after his service and had a son Gary Neal Sebastian. Nadine then moved back to the Pacific NW and worked at the Deer Park Pine lumber company as a switchboard operator then moved to Spokane and worked for many companies as a bookkeeper. She married Jim Klein who died in Vietnam and had her second son Perry Wayne Klein who preceded her in death in 1968. Nadine then married Robert Barrett in February 1968 and they had Sharlynn Marie. Robert adopted her son, Gary. They were married for 36 years before his death in 2004. She worked as an accountant for Hipperson Accounting firm in Spokane, Radcliffe Ford in Cheney and then spent most of her professional career at Eastern Washington University and retired in 2005. Nadine married her high school sweetheart, Merlyn Schmelzer in July of 2011. She was an active member in Martha Chapter 60, Order of Eastern Star, Trinity Court #51 Order of the Amaranth, El Karnak #6 Daughters of the Nile, Beta Sigma Phi and the Red Hats Society. She was strong and caring in providing service to others. Her greatest joys came from watching her children and granddaughters adventures. She was a zealous pinnacle player and loved spending time at the lake. She is survived by her husband of five years, Merlyn, at the home; daughter and son-in-law, Sharlynn and Jeff Rima of Spokane; two granddaughters, Nicole and Selena Rima; one great-granddaughter, Nora Winter; brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Ruthie Moore of Albany, Oregon; sister-in-law Donna Abel of Spokane Valley and many special nieces and nephews. A Rosary Service will be held 6:30pm Thursday, July 14th, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Spokane. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00am Friday, July 15th at St. Peter's Catholic Church followed by interment services at Spokane Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Martha Chapter 60, Order of Eastern Star.
