Christina Elise Smith

Christina (Chrissy) Elise Smith, 69, of Spokane, Washington, and of recent Nordman, Idaho, passed away Sunday, July 12th 2026. Chrissy was born June 21st, 1957, to Beverly-Jean Elise Burton (mother) and Ralph William Burton (father) in Bellflower, California. Chrissy spent much of her early childhood in California before her family settled in St Marie’s, Idaho. At a young age, she experienced the heartbreaking loss of her father, who passed away in a workplace accident. She later moved to Spokane, Washington, with her mother, her well-respected adoptive father, Edward Kennedy, and her four brothers. Chrissy attended Rogers High School, where she met the love of her life, John. They shared 54 wonderful years together, including 44 years of marriage. Together they built a beautiful life in Spokane, raising their three children, working hard, and creating a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering stability. Never one to shy away from hard work, Chrissy and a friend opened a plant shop, where she enjoyed getting her hands dirty while learning the rewards and challenges of owning a small business. In 1980, she welcomed her first child into the world. Choosing to dedicate herself to her family, Chrissy stayed home to raise all three of her children during their early years. As her children grew, Chrissy began volunteering at their elementary school. Her compassion, reliability, and caring nature quickly earned the admiration of those around her, and she was soon offered a paid position. She eventually became a paraeducator, where her extraordinary patience and gentle spirit allowed her to make a lasting difference in the lives of countless children through one-on-one support. Even after giving so much of herself each day at school, Chrissy always found the energy to care for her family at home. On weekends and summers, she worked alongside her husband, John, and dear friends at Jump Off Joe Lake Resort. She dedicated her entire educational career to the students and staff of Regal Elementary and Bemiss Elementary, retiring at the age of 66. Chrissy found her greatest joy outdoors. Whether she was fishing, hunting, participating in canoe races, snowmobiling, spending time in the mountains, or relaxing at the family property, she felt most at peace surrounded by nature. Above all, she treasured time spent with friends and family. Chrissy will be remembered for her remarkable patience, unwavering kindness, welcoming spirit, warmth, and genuine love for others. She had a special affection for animals, especially the family dogs, a gentle heart, and, despite her small stature, possessed incredible strength and resilience. Her quiet compassion touched everyone fortunate enough to know her, and her legacy of love, generosity, and selflessness will continue to live on through her family, friends, and the many lives she impacted. Chrissy is survived by her best friend and husband John Smith; her children, John Smith III (Heather Smith), Crystal Bodeau (Adam Bodeau), and Breanna Smith; her 3 grandchildren Jaxson Smith, Elise Rockstrom, and Alexandra Smith; her remaining brothers, Willie, Greg, and Pat Burton; her sister Jeannie Christensen; sisters in law and brothers in law and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, adoptive father, and her brother Les Burton. No services are scheduled at this time. The family will announce future plans at a later date and appreciates your love, prayers, and support.
