Bobby Dane Gingrich

Bobby "Bob" Dane Gingrich, 92, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, in Cheney, Washington, following complications related to lung cancer. He was born on March 20, 1934, in Colfax, Washington, to Alma and Andrew Gingrich. Bob was raised on his family's farm on the breaks of the Snake River, south of Colfax. He began his education in a one-room country schoolhouse and later walked three-quarters of a mile each day to catch the school bus into Colfax. Growing up during World War II, he experienced the rationing and challenges of the era. As a high-school senior, Bob enlisted in the Army National Guard and proudly served for eight years. During a family trip to Yellowstone, he met an evangelist whose influence led him to become a devoted Christian. Bob lived his faith deeply and was active in the Gideons. Bob's lifelong work was rooted in agriculture. He grew up farming and graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Agriculture. In 1956, he began his career with Rosalia Producers, Inc., a farmer-owner grain cooperative, where he held management positions over the course of 40 years before retiring in 1996. He also worked for an export grain company in Portland, Oregon, and helped oversee the farming of his wife's family homestead in Latah, Washington. Bob truly knew and loved every aspect of the grain business. Shortly after arriving in Rosalia, Bob met the love of his life, Betty Jane Berg. Bob discovered that Betty, who lived next door, was a banker and she could do his banking for him. Their relationship became much more than that. They were married on October 20, 1957, and shared 68 years of marriage. Together they raised their son, Terry, and took great joy in watching their son and grandchildren participate in sports. They built their home with much of their own labor and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Mexico. Bob's work also took him to Europe and Africa. In 2008, Bob and Betty moved to Cheney, Washington, where Bob continued working in the real estate business with his son. Bob's retreat was their property up the St. Joe River. He enjoyed developing the property, fly fishing, and tying his own flies. He also took great pleasure in Betty's love of gardening and in the beauty she created. Bob was remarkably computer-savvy. At age 80, he began creating computer keystroke cartoon art. He eventually printed seven books of his work, always hoping that each reader would get a chuckle from them. God bless. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Andrew Gingrich; his brother, Archie; and his sister, Imogene Loshe. He is survived by his wife, Betty; his son, Terry and wife, Laura; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Bob leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, hard work, humor, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
