SCHOLZ-YOUNG, AGNES OLINE “AGGIE” How fitting that Mom chose Mother’s Day, May 13, 2018 to meet her Lord. When asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she replied “a Mother”. Mom, you were the best – you fulfilled your dream and blessed our lives by sharing your unconditional love, compassion, understanding, honesty, acceptance, support and guidance. You were not only our Mother, but a true and cherished best friend. You led by example and when the time came that you faced health challenges, your faith, strength, sweetness and unquestioning acceptance continued to teach us new graceful lessons up until your last moment. You were a warm blanket for our souls! Mom was the youngest of ten children, born November 22, 1933 in Lark, North Dakota to Norwegian immigrants, Lars and Ingeborg Handegard. Her family moved to Chattaroy, Washington in 1936. She is survived by her sister, Thelma Ostby and was preceded in death by both parents and her siblings, Idar, Lars, Leif, Willie, John, Mabel, Gladys and Ida. Mom married Harold (Chic) Scholz in 1953. Together they raised four daughters at their country home in Chattaroy – where she lived for 63 years. Dad died in 1975 and mom was blessed with finding the second love of her life (and our second dad) Robert Young, until his passing in 2002. She enjoyed life filled with camping, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, motorhome trips, numerous school activities, sporting events and her cabin on the Pend Oreille River. All holidays were a magical time adorned with over the top decorations and chaotic family celebrations! Mom, we love you and want to share a few childhood memories … fixing our hair and plastering it with Dippity Do, chocolate chip cookies baked with love and stored in Tupperware, salmon fishing at Sekiu, pink lipstick, green shag carpet (meticulously raked), piano, accordion and harmonica concerts (your amazing talent to play by ear), Cocoa Puffs as a special treat, bologna sandwiches, home-sewn pink shifts and Sunday chicken family dinners. Mom’s heart was filled with enough love to have a special unique relationship with each of her 10 grandchildren - each inheriting her feisty and spunky personality traits! Her sense of humor and love of mischief and pranks were best shared (and appreciated) by her grandchildren. They were #1 in her book and she was #1 to them. Her blessings are, Daughters: Sharon (Frank) Baker, Jacquelyn Scholz, Debra Scholz (Gary Coe) and Ingrid (Larry) Hollen. Grandchildren: Ryan (Andrea), Jami (Sean), Bret (Jordan), Chuck (Annette), Amy (OJ), Michael, Mitchell, Taylor (Mark), Brad and Randi (Brandon). Great-grandchildren: Landon, Jack, Hadley, Allie, Cole, Hollis, Parks, Hunter, Tova, Oly, Hayden, Hudson, Mason, Brayden and Colby. Mom spent the last year and a half living with her “Fairwinds Family”. Thank you to each caregiver, staff member and friend for welcoming her and providing daily loving support and care. A special thank you to John Clark-a blessing that offered true friendship and opened his heart to unconditional acceptance and support. Whenever we told Mom we loved her, she’d get a twinkle in her eye and say, “I Love You, Too….And, You Know It”. Yes, mom…..we know it! Graveside services will be held at 1:30 on June 9th, 2018 at Chattaroy Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Spokane.
