David John Behrens

David John (Lunceford) Behrens age 77, of Spokane Valley WA passed away peacefully Friday, March 5th, 2021 at Hospice of Spokane. Dave struggled with cancer and dementia in his final years. Service will be held at 1:30 Tuesday, March 16th at The Washington State Veterans Cemetery located at 21702 W Espanola Rd. Please contact son Duane @ 509-939-7858 if you plan to attend. Immediately following the service, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Dave to visit at the home of Dave and Bonnie located at 8122 E Jackson Spokane Valley. David was born October 16, 1943, in Spokane, WA to Reuben and Edna Lunceford. Later, Dave was adopted by stepfather Alfred Behrens. Dave attended school in the West Valley school district and enlisted in the Navy from 1960-1964 and was a reservist until 1966. After his service in the Navy, Dave started his family and later found employment with Kaiser Aluminum where he stayed until retirement in the early ’90s. Upon retirement, Dave enjoyed his final years taking long walks at local parks, including Plante’s Ferry Sports Complex where he made new friends and was known on occasion to find other’s lost treasures bringing them home to grandkids. In case anyone needed an extra soccer ball, coat, or lawn chair Papa Behr most likely had one. Dave had quite a soft spot for the stray cats in his neighborhood, often adopting them into his yard, garage, or house. Dave loved fishing and he was always willing to call out for help from the big guy upstairs, “give me a fish Lord.” Lifelong friends, Roger and Cheryl Holthaus made many memories with Dave include camping, fishing, and road trips on motorcycles, including a trip to Sturgis with Roger. Dave was gentle, kind, generous, and funny. He worked hard his entire life and lived simply. Always willing to help others financially, or with a project like painting a house, mowing a yard, or refinishing a dresser. Dave is survived by his wife, Bonnie Behrens, his three sons David (spouse Sara) of Vancouver WA, Duane (spouse Brandi) of Spokane WA, and Dale (spouse Julie) of Priest River, ID. Along with stepchildren Robert Johnston of Post Falls ID, and Connie Troudt (spouse Rod) of Priest River, ID. Grandchildren Eden, Nathan, Zachary, Emilie, Dylan, Ashley, Eli, and Alley. Great-grandchildren Raegan and Cameryn. Step grandchildren, Tiffany, Tyler, Tristan, and their children Tyson, Sullivan, Jayda, and Trace. Nieces and Nephew; Kimberly, Valerie, and Todd, children of deceased sister Sharron, and Lori and Gina, children of brother Loren & sister-in-law Trish. You will be missed Dave, Dad, Papa Behr.
